MORAY MP REACTS TO GROUNDING OF NIMROD FLEET
Posted on Friday, February 23 2007

Moray SNP MP Angus Robertson has reacted with concern to the news that the RAF Nimrod Fleet has been grounded whilst safety checks are being conducted. The Vice-Chairman of the Parliamentary All Party RAF Group commented that safety must come first in the wake of the recent Nimrod tragedy. Speaking about the aircraft that are based at RAF Kinloss in his constituency, Mr Robertson said: "Serious concerns have been raised about the ageing Nimrod fleet since the tragic crash in Afghanistan which claimed the lives of 14 servicemen. "It is the correct decision to put the safety of the Nimrod crews first and all necessary checks must be completed before flight operations are resumed. "Hopefully the flight, ground crews and families of service personnel at RAF Kinloss are being fully briefed about developments."This news underlines the need to finalise the replacement of the current Nimrod aircraft with the new generation of aircraft as a matter of priority."ENDS.
