SNP SUPPORT FULL DTI INVESTIGATION INTO FAREPAK DEMISE
Posted on Thursday, November 9 2006

SNP MPs have welcomed the news that a Farepak Response Fund is to be organised to help those affected by the demise of Farepak but have called for a full DTI investigation to stop similar incidents from happening again.Speaking after an adjournment debate on the hamper industry took place today (Tuesday )in Westminster Hall Moray's MP Angus Robertson said:"The move to organise a fund to help Farepak customers is certainly progress but it is vital that all those who were involved in the demise of Farepak live up to their moral responsibility and offer substantial sums to help the thousands of families who otherwise face a miserable Christmas."Serious questions remain about the actions of various organisations in the run up to the demise of Farepak. A full DTI investigation must determine the circumstances of the collapse and take action against those involved if appropriate."It is clear as a result of this case that there needs to be greater regulation of this industry and that people trying to save for Christmas are advised to do so with reputable credit unions."ENDSContact: Graham Leadbitter - 01343 551111
