MP Praises Work of Rescuers
Posted on Tuesday, April 10 2007

Moray SNP MP Angus Robertson has praised the work of rescuers who winched an injured canoeist to safety from a deep gorge on the River Findhorn. The multi-agency rescues involved the RAF, Coastguard, Police, Mountain Rescue and, ultimately the medical staff who treated the injured Kayaker. The canoeist was flown from the Forres area to Raigmore in Inverness and has since been released from hospital.Commenting the Scottish National Party MP for Moray said:" The complex and technical nature of this rescue demonstrates the skill and expertise that have to be employed by the various rescue services." The good weather this Easter has brought out many outdoor enthusiasts and even with the best will in the world the most experienced canoesists and hillwalkers can require the services of rescue teams." It is important therefore that we recognise the vital work being undertaken and ensure that the services are properly funded. Whether they are part of the RAF, police and other government financed organisations or whether they are voluntary like the Mountain Rescue teams their services are invaluable."Ends.
