One of the seven ancient
Celtic Earldoms of Scotland,
Moray stretches from the cliffs,
harbours and beaches of the
Moray Firth to the Arctic
tundra of the high Cairngorms.
With its fine soil and dry
climate the Laich of Moray
became the "Garden and
Granary of Scotland"
|
It
was a gem fought over
by the Picts, the Romans,
the Vikings and the
Scottish Clans. The
Men of Moray formed
the backbone of the
armies of William Wallace
and Robert the Bruce
which finally won Scotland's
Freedom. The people
of Moray developed that
sturdy independence
of spirit which characterises
them to this day. |

Blessed
with pure water
from its highland
rivers and streams
and an abundance
of golden barley
it was perhaps inevitable
that Moray would
become The major
whisky producing
area of Scotland,
home to such names
as Glenlivet, Glenfiddich,
the Macallan and
Chivas Regal. To
go with the dram
are the soups and
game of Baxters
of Speyside, Moray
Seafood and Walkers
shortbread. Textiles
still features in
Moray with the high
quality cashmere
products from Johnstons
of Elgin. |
